Board - Moorman
Frankie Moorman was elected to the Pontotoc City School District Board of Trustees in the November election.  He was sworn in at the January 12th board meeting by Melinda Nowicki, Circuit Clerk.  He is joined by his wife, Angie, and his children.  
Congratulations, Mr. Moorman!
Board Retirement
Charlotte Bass served on the PCSD Board of Trustees for sixteen years.  She did not seek reelection.  The Board honored her at the January board meeting by presenting her with a rocking chair.  Please join me in thanking Charlotte for all her time and service to this school district.
Pontotoc Reading Association

The Pontotoc Reading Association had its officer recognition during the month of November. This new local council is excited about the opportunity to promote literacy in the Greater Pontotoc Area. The organization is currently in the process of registering as an affiliate with the International Reading Association. We would like to invite anyone in this area to attend our next meeting in January. Email Murray Collum for additional information at mhcolum@yahoo.com.

Band Announcement
Congratulations to the Pontotoc High School Band.  The band traveled to Pearl Saturday to compete in the State Marching Band Championships, which they qualified for in early October.  For the 2nd year in a row, they return as State Championship Medalists!  In addition, the Pontotoc High School percussion section is 4A State Champions, receiving the trophy for the highest scoring 4A drum line in Mississippi.  As another 1st, in the preliminary competition, the band received 1st place in music performance, being judged as the best playing 4A band in Mississippi.  Congratulations Band!

Fidelis Coat Drive
The Fidelis Club, a community women’s club, is hosting a coat drive.  Each PCSD school is collecting used coats, jackets, and pullovers.  The Fidelis Club will collect, wash, and redistribute the coats back to needy members of our community.  If you have an item you would like to donate, please drop it in one of the boxes in our schools by Friday, Nov. 7th.  If you have questions, please contact Marsha Hillhouse or Kim Koon.  Thank you!

We’d like to say a special thank you to all participants who made this such a special day for the Pontotoc City Schools – Ellen Russell for coordinating the parade, Kevin Walls for coordinating the events on the Square, Tracy Crane for coordinating the pep rally, and the PCSD employees who hung flags, moved mats, cleaned up trash, and whatever else needed to be done.

MAGC Awards
Congratulations to Phil Webb for being awarded the Administrator Advocate Award of Excellence in Gifted Education and James Castleman for being awarded the 2014 Sherrye C. Thompson Parent Advocacy Award in Gifted Education! Both were also awarded the 2014 MAGC (MS Association of Gifted Children) Outstanding Advocate Award of Excellence.  Thank you to both men for supporting our gifted program!!
